The Google News app will improve its support for web content, displaying both AMP and non-AMP web content.
Google News will no longer render article text provided via RSS feeds. Instead, it will route readers directly to the publishers’ content hosted on their own websites.
This change is a part of Google’s recent page experience update, and once the rollout is completed “in the coming weeks,” the News app will show both AMP and non-AMP content globally.
The AMP framework was previously a requirement to be included in Google News. Now that Google has gotten rid of the requirement, the platform may be a more viable way to attract readers for publishers that didn’t adopt AMP.

While Google’s main page experience rollout was completed earlier this month, changes to Google News app have now started to roll out.
The company sent out an email to publishers highlighting the changes, assuring that “no action is required of you to enable this.”
Google is also removing functionality in the Publisher Center related to feed-based article rendering, including custom Analytics tracking IDs, third-party tracking pixels, custom RSS styling and feed ads.
While the Publisher Center updates are expected to go into effect in early November, the rendering changes are rolling out right now.
Google will remind publishers about this change again before it goes live.
